At Redgum Consulting we have significant experience and expertise in creating, running and reviewing action learning circles. We also have extensive practice in leading research and evaluation projects using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

 


Current Projects
 

Numeracy Research Project (2001 – 2003)
This is a cross-sectoral (EDWA, CEO and AISWA) research project ($0.5 million) commissioned by DETYA and hosted by the Centre for Learning, Change and Development at Murdoch University. Redgum Consulting developed the proposal and is directing the research. The project is using both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate primary students’ capacity to use mathematics across the curriculum.
 

Middle Years Numeracy Research Project (2002/2003)
The Australian National Schools Network in partnership with the University of Canberra and Redgum Consulting has been contracted by the ACT Department of Education and Children’s Services to conduct a teacher action research project focusing on numeracy across the curriculum.
 

IBM and ANSN Kidsmart Project (2001-2003)
Redgum is working in collaboration with the Australian National Schools Network, IBM, Murdoch University and the Department of Education of WA conducting action research project on the implementation of technology into pre-school classrooms. This is part of a national research and development project.
 
 

Completed Projects
 

SA Numeracy Research Circle (2001)
Developed and lead the research circles, with Murdoch University and for the Department of Training and Education in SA. It involved teachers from members of the SA Middle Schooling Network in SA, meeting for professional development on numeracy and on conducting research, planning, conducting and documenting action research and action learning projects.
 

ACT Numeracy Research Circles (2000)
Developed and lead the research circles, with the Australian National Schools Network and for the Department of Education and Children’s Services in the ACT. It involved teachers from primary and high schools in Canberra (ACT), meeting for professional development on numeracy and on conducting research, planning, conducting and documenting action research and action learning projects.
 

NSW Numeracy Research Circle (2000)
Developed and lead the research circle, with the Australian National Schools Network and for the Disadvantaged Schools Program in the NSW Department of Education. It involved teachers from a group of primary and high schools from city and rural locations in NSW, meeting for professional development on numeracy and on conducting research, planning, conducting and documenting action research and action learning projects.
 

Evaluation TAFE Professional Development Strategy (2000)
 

Evaluation of LOTE 2000 Strategy (1998/99)
In 1995 EDWA instituted a 14 million dollar five year strategy to implement a Language other than English to all students years 3 – 10 in government schools. This project, conducted by Simpson Norris International and developed and directed by Redgum Consulting, evaluated EDWA’s progress and effectiveness in moving towards the goals they outlined in their strategy.
 

LOTE in Education Support Settings (1998/99)
The LOTE in Education Support Settings project, conducted by Murdoch University in collaboration with Simpson Norris International and commissioned by the Education Department of Western Australia, used a case study methodology to document the implementation of LOTE as a learning area in three Education Support Centres. In addition to the three case studies the project produced a video for educators and another for parents, a set of guidelines for education support schools and a literature review. Redgum Consulting directed the project.
 

Uptake Project (1997)
Simpson Norris International conducted a research project with parents, students and teachers on the NALSAS Uptake Project (1997). Redgum Consulting conducted the sub-project working with six schools to: Determine reasons for school communities making an initial decision to include German as a LOTE as part of the school curriculum, and to explore those factors which supported and constrained the implementation of the German program.
